UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBILITY
The University makes every reasonable effort to ensure its data network is always available. However, access will sometimes be unavailable without notice due to maintenance, power or equipment failures, or other special circumstances. University staff are responsible for network health up to the data jack in the residence halls.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY
- Understand and comply with University policies.
- Bring your own devices and accessories to connect them.
If necessary, the UNIVERSITY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO:
- Control the bandwidth allocation to non-academic traffic.
- Monitor traffic to maintain integrity and performance of the network.
- Deny user or computer access to the network when used for illegal or unethical activities, or if the integrity of the network is threatened.
Can I bring my own wireless router?
- Wireless functions must be disabled, and you are responsible for all activity that takes place behind the router per University policy.
Can I use a switch to share connectivity to my other devices?
- Yes - we recommend using gigabit switches.
Can I run my own server?
- Yes, as long as it complies with the University's Acceptable Use of Computing Resources policy. Prohibited use will result in loss of network access for the server until the activity stops.
Will the University do port-forwarding?
- No, but you may request a public IP address from TigerTech if your device has been assigned a private IP address.
Can I use a booster or repeater for University Wi-Fi?
- No.
Can I connect my printer to WiFi?
- While it is possible, we strongly recommend you do not connect printers to University WiFi networks. It is a shared network, and most printers will allow anyone on a shared network to print to it. USB (or ad-hoc WiFi) is the best way to avoid abuse.
