5.) Application Deadlines. Your application must be complete and all documents received by the dates below:- June 1st for Fall Semester Start (I-20s for Fall will not be issued after June 30th).
-
October 1st for Spring Semester Start (I-20s for Spring will not be issued after November 30th).
-
Summer Starts Not Permitted.
Please keep in mind that some programs have their own deadlines. If you are applying for a program with a deadline, the program deadline will take priority. For instance, if you are applying for a program with a deadline in March, your application will be due in March as opposed to June.
Please visit the individual academic program pages above for any additional deadlines.
6.) Submit Your Required Documents.
Transcript Evaluation
If you received your degree at an institution outside of the US or Canada, an official NACES approved course-by-course transcript evaluation is required. The evaluation must show that the degree earned is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university with a minimum 2.5 GPA cumulatively or on the last 60 hours of undergraduate study.
If your cumulative GPA is lower that a 2.5 and you already have an earned graduate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA, this can be used for admission, but we will still need your bachelor's degree for proof of conferral.
We suggest evaluations from the following companies:- World Education Service (WES) ICAP
- SpanTran Course Analysis
- International Education Evaluations (IEE)
- Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
One of the following requirements must be met:
- TOEFL | 79 on the internet-based test (approximately 40th percentile).
- IELTS Academic | Overall band score of 6.5 or higher.
- Duolingo | Score of 110 or higher.
- TLC/HLI | Level 9 plus two Advanced English modules (80% or higher on each section is required to receive a PASS).
- iTEP | Score of 3.9 or higher.
- Evidence of baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited U.S. Institution of higher education.
- Verification of English as native language of undergraduate institution.
If the last two bullet points are not applicable to you, one of the listed test options will be required, and the score must be from within the last two years.
Official Bank Statement
If you will be attending on-campus, you will need to submit an official bank statement that indicates you have the required funds to attend. You will need to provide proof that you have the equivalent of the estimated cost of attendance. This statement will need to be certified by your bank and the original copy will need to be mailed to our office.
Please consider reviewing our Estimated Cost of Attendance for International Students.
Graduate Assistantships will not be counted toward the proof of funds but will be listed as additional funds on the I-20 document. Students must be able to provide proof of the required funding regardless of holding an assistantship position.
Financial Form
Along with your bank statement, you will also need to submit the Financial Data Form certified by your bank. If your education will be funded by a sponsor, their information will need to be listed on this form.
Passport ID Page
Please submit a copy of your passport ID that clearly lists your legal name and passport number.
Transfer Form
If you are a current student on an F1 visa at another university in the United States, you will be required to submit a Transfer Form. Half of this document will need to be completed by the International Office at your current University.
Personal Statement
You can find an instructional video on how to write a personal statement on our admissions tutorials page located here on our website.
Many programs provide prompts or questions that they would like to see addressed in a personal statement. You will want to check the webpage of the program to which you are applying to find this information.
Letters of Recommendation
Letters of recommendation must be on official letterhead and contain the pen signature of the author.
Other Documents
Some programs may require additional documentation to complete your application, such as resumes and GRE scores. This information can be found within the specific programs listed in Step 1.
Once all required documents have been received, your application will be forwarded to the department for review. You will receive an email notifying you of your decision when a decision has been reached.
7.) I-20 Process.
The financial form, official bank statement, passport ID, and admission letter/email are required in order to request your I-20. We will collect these documents and send a request to International Student Services in order to request your I-20.
If you will be bringing a spouse, child or other dependent with you, you will need to provide us with a Supplemental Information Form that lists who will be traveling with you. A Passport ID Page for each spouse and/or dependent must also be provided. A special I-20 will need to be issued for them as well.
You will also need to provide proof of additional certified funds on your official bank statement.- Spouse - Additional $4,000 per year.
- Dependent - Additional $2,000 per year.
- Immediate family members must also purchase health insurance for an additional cost.
Once the I-20 has been prepared, our office will send your I-20 to you electronically. Please be sure to keep your email address current.
8.) Visa Process. International Student Services has detailed information on their website regarding the process of obtaining a visa.
9.) Pre-Arrival Information. International Student Services has detailed information on their website regarding your next steps after you obtain a visa.
