Faculty-Student Mentor Program
The Department of Allied Health is pleased to announce a faculty-student mentor program to enhance a department culture of collaboration between faculty and students, providing guidance to develop and enrich future medical imaging professionals. This program is tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. This will involve group, peer, and/or individual mentoring activities and will include department faculty mentors or facilitators, medical imaging professionals, and medical imaging students. Students are encouraged to engage in the type of mentoring environment that best fits their needs.

Group Mentoring Opportunities
There will be several group mentoring events occurring throughout the school year. Students are encouraged to regularly check the FHSU Allied Health social media pages (Facebook and Instagram) and FHSU student email for specific dates, times, and locations for upcoming events.
Peer Mentoring Opportunities
During many of the group mentoring events, there will be peer mentoring opportunities available. This will give pre-program students the chance to connect with current first-year and second-year program students in both the RT and DMS programs and discuss information and experiences from a student's perspective.
Individual Mentoring Opportunities
To schedule an individual meeting with a faculty mentor, students are encouraged to reach out via email or phone to that faculty mentor. If you do not know or do not have a preference for who is your faculty mentor, call the Department of Allied Health (785) 628-5678 and you will be connected to an available faculty mentor. In addition, each Friday morning from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. in CH 129, we will offer open mentoring sessions, staffed by specific faculty mentors available to assist students who may have specific questions or need assistance.
Transition to College
For students, the transition to college can offer exciting opportunities that have never been available to students before. Although this can be a great experience, it can be overwhelming at times with the many changes the student encounters. The faculty mentors have collected these helpful resources in the several areas they feel will help to benefit students with their transition to college, as they are all of importance to ensure student success.
Transition to Career
As students progress in their educational careers at FHSU and have been accepted and are enrolled in the programs offered in our department, the faculty mentor is more commonly referred to as their clinical coordinator. The clinical coordinator will work one-on-one with the student to provide the necessary information for the student as they progress through the sequenced program curriculum and requirements. In addition, the coordinator will assist the students as they begin to prepare to take certification examinations and apply for imaging positions within the field. We have information regarding our field to assist with the student's transition to their career and the planning process. Our department offers additional degree programs and certificates to support the advancement of imaging professionals in the field.
