Presenters:
Susan Koerner, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a clinical assistant professor in the KU Department of
Hearing and Speech at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She joined the faculty in
December 2022. Koerner's dissertation focuses on the provision of augmentative and
alternative communication professional development opportunities to rural, school-based
speech-language pathologists through virtual coaching.
Julie Gatts, SLPD, CCC-SLP, guides the Facilitating Adult Communication Team (FACT) within the Schiefelbusch
Clinic at KU Lawrence campus. FACT supports individuals who have acquired communication
and swallowing disorders that result from strokes, brain injuries, cancer, progressive diseases,
and changes in vocal function. She has a special interest in supporting individuals and their
families by using Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems after they have
experienced the onset of a communication disorder.
The speakers do not have any financial or non-financial disclosures related to the content of this course.

There will be breaks with refreshments offered throughout the workshop. During the lunch break you will have time to check out a variety of local restaurants. Local places to eat include The Golden Q, Taco Shop, The Press, Gellas, Cancun Mexican Grill, Defiance Downtown, On the Rocks and much more! If you’d rather stay on campus, FHSU also has a Starbucks, Grab and Go and Mondo’s Subs in the Memorial Union.
