Credit for Prior Learning for General Education Courses
The general education program at FHSU provides foundational skills and the background perspective to connect the chosen major with other majors and society. These skills include the ability to analyze [verbally and mathematically] issues challenging their field, or their community, in terms of the chosen major with attention to ethical, social, and cultural interests. Students also evaluate the perspective other fields bring to these issues as a foundation to understand influences, integrate ideas, or collaborate. Students must be able to present their own ideas both written and orally.
Recognizing that some students may already possess these foundational skills and background perspectives FHSU utilizes several methods to evaluate if students have obtained the necessary objectives outside of taking identified university courses.
Examples:
ENG 101 English Composition I – CLEP; AP; IB; Local Exams
MATH 110 College Algebra – CLEP; DSST; Local Exam
INF 101 Introduction to Computer Systems – CLEP; DSST; Local Exam

Some majors require specific courses be completed as part of the General Education Program: Discuss your plans with your academic advisor to confirm how courses will apply to your specific degree.
Students will not receive CPL credit for a course they have previously received a grade or incomplete in: For more CPL rules see our policies page.
CPL options do involve costs (includes testing companies and testing centers) and students may not obtain credit. It is up to you to determine if you desire to pursue the opportunity.
