Fort Hays Students, Faculty, and Staff Participate in ERASMUS+ Exchange
In Spring 2023, two students from Fort Hays State University (FHSU) and one student from RISEBA, a university located in Riga, the capital city of Latvia, seized the opportunity to immerse themselves in each other's academic environments, thanks to the ERASMUS+ Exchange grant. ERASMUS+ is the European Union's program dedicated to supporting education, training, youth, and sports initiatives across Europe, offering invaluable mobility and cooperation opportunities in various educational sectors.
During the exchange facilitated by the ERASMUS+ grant, students from FHSU and RISEBA spent a full semester at each other's institutions where they resided in designated housing, engaged in academic pursuits, cultivated meaningful relationships, and learned what it looks like to be a university student in a different part of the world. This exchange not only enhanced their educational experiences but also fostered cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
In addition to student exchanges, RISEBA sent two staff members to FHSU in March 2023, with three more expected to visit in July.
During their visit to FHSU, RISEBA staff members had the privilege of participating in Rodeo Day, where they immersed themselves in the vibrant culture and history of the American Midwest, gaining firsthand knowledge of rodeo events and the tales of the Wild West. Conversely, from June 23 to July 2, FHSU sent three staff members and one faculty member to partake in the exchange program.
While in Latvia, FHSU faculty and staff members embarked on a journey through Baltic state history, exploring ancient castles, museums, and universities in the region. Furthermore, they engaged in discussions with RISEBA administrators, exploring avenues for future collaborations and strengthening the partnership between the two institutions. FHSU faculty and staff also had the opportunity to connect with FHSU students studying in Riga, learning about their experiences living and learning in Latvia.
Overall, the ERASMUS+ Exchange program has proven to be a catalyst for enriching educational experiences, fostering intercultural dialogue, and building bonds between Fort Hays State University and RISEBA.
