FHSU Mail
FHSU Mail is the official e-mail account issued to Fort Hays State University Students. Outlook e-mail accounts are NOT issued to FHSU Students through Office365. Outlook is the official e-mail account for Faculty/Staff only.
FHSU Mail is accessed using Google Workspace. For any FHSU Mail topics not covered by the Frequently Asked Questions (below), you can search support.google.com.
Students can access FHSU Mail by clicking Students at the top of the main FHSU page, and then clicking Gmail. Students may also log in to Workday and click the myFHSU App, then under the Resources tab, click Student Email.
Faculty and staff are also provided with a Gmail account, but it is not their official email - it is an "extra" account. Some faculty use it to access and use specific Google Apps within their classes.
FHSU student e-mail addresses use the format: YourTigerNetIDUsername@mail.fhsu.edu
If you just recently applied for admission, your account should be available within one business day (under normal processing conditions). If this does not apply to you, please contact TigerTech to have one created. Mail may not be received by your new FHSU Mail account until your TigerNetID is activated!
The TigerNetID login is used to access student FHSU Mail accounts. See these instructions for changing your TigerNetID password. For login or password assistance, contact TigerTech.
- If you believe someone knows your TigerNetID password, you should change it immediately, following instructions on the TigerNetID Manage Password Page.
- You are held legally responsible for any activity that occurs through use of your account.
- NEVER send private information such as usernames, social security numbers, birth dates, or bank account numbers in an email. We will NEVER ask you to provide private information in an e-mail.
You are required to change your TigerNetID password at least once every 360 days, as described in the FHSU Information Security Policy. In order to retain access to your FHSU Mail (Google) account, you must abide by FHSU’s Email Policy, as well as FHSU’s Information Security Policy. (These policies are found on the Information Access and Technology Policies page.)
Any account that violates the above guidelines may be subject to suspension or removal:
- If your account is suspended due to a violation, contact TigerTech for assistance.
- Any account that has been suspended for over 60 days may be subject to deletion.
As a default, the Conversation View setting is turned on and this feature groups e-mail replies together with their original message, creating a single conversation or thread. To read more about this feature or learn how to shut if off, view the Gmail Help Center's support page for Conversations.
Each FHSU Mail account has 30GB storage across the Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos applications. Please note that this limit is subject to change, as it is dependent on our license agreement and actual usage.
For information needed to set up the default e-mail program on your mobile device to access your student e-mail, see the Mobile Mail section (below).
If your mobile device has an Internet browser, you can also access your e-mail by going to student resources and clicking on the GMAIL tab.
The official method for accessing FHSU Mail is through Google Workspace. While we encourage you to access your FHSU e-mail using this site, you may use other programs if you wish. See the Mobile Mail section (below) for the basic information needed to set up other e-mail programs to access your FHSU Mail account.
The Fort Hays State University Email Policy (www.fhsu.edu/policies/pdf/3-2024-e-mail-policy.pdf) states that after a student is no longer enrolled at FHSU, their student @mail.fhsu.edu Gmail account will remain intact and accessible for approximately one additional year. After the one-year grace period, the student @mail.fhsu.edu Gmail account will be disabled on or after the 20th day of enrollment of the next spring or fall academic semester. You will receive notification emails prior to this deadline.
The initial disabling of former student accounts will occur on September 17, 2024. On this date, students who last attended FHSU May 2023 or prior will lose Gmail access.
If you have not been enrolled at FHSU during the past year, we strongly recommend that you move to a new email address/system before this date. You will receive notification emails prior to this deadline.

Google Takeout can be used to move assets such as your email, drive contents, and documents to another Google account. Most issues people have with using this method seem to be easily resolved by being logged into the account you’re transferring from and the one you’re transferring to in separate browsers or by using private/incognito browser windows.
You can also copy & transfer your files to another Google account or use other methods (like a desktop drive app) to move your files to another location.
We encourage students to use their FHSU Mail account because it is the official university communication method. However, if you wish to have your email forwarded, see the Mail Forwarding section (below) to learn how to forward it to a different personal account.
The FHSU Mail account is accessed using Google Workspace, which provides a variety of other free online features and applications. Please keep in mind that you may need to use other applications provided in your Google Workspace account (such as Google Docs) if required by an instructor.
If your name has changed, see Name/Email Address Change Information to request to have your email address updated.
FHSU student email is currently hosted by Google. Applications that natively support Google accounts should work with your student account as well. Simply enter your full email address (e.g., tigernetid@mail.fhsu.edu) as your username and it should redirect you to the official FHSU sign-in page.
However, FHSU recommends using the official Gmail app to access your student email on mobile devices. It is the safest way to check your email on mobile. When using the official Gmail app, your credentials are never shared with Google.
To add your student email account to Gmail:
- Open the Gmail app.
- Tap ≡ > Settings > Add Account.
- Select Google.
- For your username, enter your full student email address (e.g., tigernetid@mail.fhsu.edu).
- You will be redirected to the official FHSU sign-in page.
- Enter your TigerNet ID username and password.
- Click Submit.
*Note: Avoid using applications that require IMAP or POP to access your email. These protocols are inherently less secure than modern alternatives.
This information applies only to student email. Faculty and Staff should NOT forward their official FHSU e-mail. See FHSU's Email Policy for more information.
Because FHSU is unable to provide support for other e-mail systems, we cannot assist with problems encountered while using other e-mail providers.
