Meet the March 2019 Students of the Month
On-Campus Student: Alex Kultgen
Alex is a Junior Organizational Leadership major from Waco, Texas. On campus, she is a member of the Black Student Union and works as the Student Coordinator of the Global Leadership Project. Outside of school, Alex enjoys reading, traveling, and watching Duke during March Madness. She chose to get involved with the department because Dr. Whitaker convinced her to receive her Leadership Certificate. Also, Alex took 300 with Dr. Seth Kastle and after he showed her a documentary about Jane Elliot's Blue Eyes Brown Eyes Experiment, she knew that leadership was her passion and she needed to switch her major. Her favorite class is LDRS 640 with Dr. Curt Brungardt. Alex said "I love the social justice aspect of the class and getting to learn all about leadership and civic engagement. The class has been one of the most influential and important classes that I have taken to date." Congratulations, Alex!
Virtual Student: Niki Griffith
Niki is a MPS Graduate student from Luka, KS. She completed her nursing degree through FHSU during the years of 2003 and 2007 and started to pursue her Masters in Professional Studies in 2018. Niki is currently the District 6a Chair for KONL (Kansas Organization for Nurse Leaders) and serves as a member of KARQM (Kansas Association of Risk and Quality Management). Outside of school, Niki likes to read books, listen to music, attend concerts, and be outside. She got involved with Leadership because she wanted to further her education but in an area that is separate from nursing. Niki had serval informal leadership roles and had the desire to grow, both personally and professionally. Niki does not have a favorite leadership class. However, she said that "The discussions with my leadership peers have been the greatest aspect of the classes thus far. I have enjoyed learning the material through each of their unique perspectives. The fact that not everyone originates from the same location, culture, or industry is fantastic. Additionally, I cannot thank Dr. Goertzen and Dr. McRay enough for their guidance, motivation, and support throughout this journey." Congratulations, Niki!
Virtual Student: Tricia Kelley
Tricia is a senior from Augusta, GA. She is a General Studies Major with a concentration in health promotion or education. Outside of school, Tricia is a stay at home mom to three children (ages 5, 3, and 15 months) and has been a stay at home wife for 9 years this July. In addition, she has two cats, Trebek and Trudeau, who make a great addition to her family. In her free time, she likes to read, go to the gym, and drink coffee. She chose to get involved with Leadership Programs because she wanted to round out her education. Her favorite class is LDRS 302 because the information is relevant to both the workplace and everyday life. Congratulations, Tricia!
International Student: Yiming Zhu
Congratulations, Ace!
