Meet the October 2017 Students of the Month
On-Campus Student: Bradley DeMers
Bradley is a freshman from Osceola, Nebraska. He is majoring in Organizational Leadership and working towards a minor in Sports Management. Bradley is currently involved in Victor E Village Hall Council, Young Democrats, Student Government Association, and the Leadership Department's learning community, Live. Learn. Lead. Outside of school, Bradley likes to hang out with friends and watch college football. He got involved with Leadership Studies because he was curious about leadership and how it operates. In his high school, he was the student body resident who led him to become interested in how leadership applies around the world. His favorite leadership class so far has been LDRS 300, Introduction to Leadership Concepts because his teacher, Justin, has done a phenomenal job of teaching his class information about leadership and the styles included in it. Bradley says Justin has also let students apply their knowledge which has been beneficial to everyone. Bradley says "I'm very excited to continue taking classes through the department because of my positive experiences and the relationships I've gained through my Leadership course."
Virtual Student: April Acosta
April is a Management major from Wichita working toward a Certificate in Leadership Studies. Often you can find her volunteering for her son's soccer team and at his school. Outside of school, her hobbies include traveling with her family. Her favorite spots are near the ocean. She also enjoys trying new things- especially new foods. April also likes to watch movies and TV and socialize with her friends. April chose to get involved with the department because she felt strong leadership skills could be beneficial in her career and her personal life. April says "The ability to effectively lead people is something that I find to be both valuable and respected; therefore want to learn as much about it as I can." So far her favorite Leadership class has been LDRS 300, Introduction to Leadership concepts. She says this is because this class shows how complicated leadership is and how the different theories can applies to real-life situations. April says the class has an emphasis on the idea that everyone has leadership ability- all you need is desire and motivation.
International Student: Sun Bo (Bo)
Bo is a first-year Organizational Leadership major from Shenyang, China. He is going to school at Shenyang Normal University. Because he is a pilot, he aspires to be a professional Boeing787 Dreamliner's captain. Bo says learning Leadership could motivate him to succeed in future collaborative teamwork. Bo has also learned about emotional intelligence which will be beneficial to his career. On campus, Bo is part of the Chinese FFA pilot pool. The Chinese FFA assists members in focusing on developing job skills. Bo also has applied to join the College of International Business writing center. As a candidate for the position, he will have the opportunity to help his classmates write and inspire them to work hard. Outside of school, he works on the ground practices of aviation knowledge. Bo also likes to play basketball, swim, and run. Bo says leadership can affect his daily life and influence his performance at work. Since he was curious about the major, he chose it as a major. Introduction to Leadership Concepts, LDRS 300, has been his favorite class so far. He liked learning the history and theories of leadership and that it provides a clear structure of leadership.
