Scholarship for Faculty and Staff
At FHSU, scholarship is created and disseminated in many forms including scholarly publications, exhibits, and performances. Through these channels, scholarship is responsive to and inclusive of the variety of scholarly activities across disciplines and accessible to embody the nature of scholarship and research as public good.
Scholar Services
Forsyth Library provides services to help faculty navigate the publishing process, increase the impact of FHSU scholarship, and showcase scholarly activities. Learn more about scholar services.
Below are some of the areas where the written works of FHSU’s scholarly community have been published and made available:
- Institutional Repository - The FHSU Scholars Repository collects and preserves the creative and scholarly works of the FHSU community and to make these works available to a global audience. The repository is also home to a growing collection of historical documents about the university and surrounding region. The repository is a service of Forsyth Library. - Open Educational Resources - View openly licensed textbooks written by FHSU faculty to help reduce the cost of educational resources for students while supporting high-quality teaching, learning, and research and to increase university participation in a learning environment that values global sharing of knowledge.
- Journals and Peer-Reviewed Series - View scholarly journals published or edited by FHSU faculty, departments, and colleges including Teacher-Scholar: The Journal of the State Comprehensive University, Journal of Applied and Educational Research, Academic Leadership Journal in Student Research, Journal of Business & Leadership among others.
- Fort Hays Studies - Written by FHSU faculty beginning in 1937 and published periodically until 2010, the Fort Hays Studies Series, is a series of monographs cover topics including history, geology, biology, music, economics, and others. The Ethnic Studies Series is part of the larger collection and contains five monographs written on the history of the local Volga-German population.
The creative works of faculty are performed and showcased in many ways, including:
- Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art (connected to the Center for Art & Design) and the Taylor Gallery (inside the Center for Applied Technology) display various faculty and student art, shows and traveling exhibits throughout the year. View the upcoming exhibition schedules.
- Music and Theatre performances take place in the Felten-Start Theatre, Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center, and other locations throughout the community. View the upcoming performances and events.
- The Campus Art Collection features photographs and scans of individual pieces of artwork created by FHSU faculty during their time at the university.
- The Faculty-Staff Lounge located on the second floor of Memorial Union is a place where faculty and staff are encouraged to display their scholarship. Contact the Scholarship Environment Committee chair to arrange for display.
- The FHSU President's Residence graciously invites faculty to display examples of their scholarship in the home. To display your research in the president’s home, please contact your chair or dean.
